Take Part in Our Living Torah

Dear Friends,

At a recent Kiddush, our community was honoured to receive a remarkable gift: together with their children, Mr. Itzhak and Mrs. Miriam Gleicher have generously committed to sponsor a beautiful new Torah for our Shul.

With the growth of our community and our regular Shabbat services, this gift is truly meaningful. The Torah is the most sacred and treasured item in Jewish life. Its words remain exactly as they were when they were first received by our ancestors over 3,300 years ago — transcribed by Moses from G‑d Himself.

The final mitzvah in the Torah is for every Jew to write a Torah Scroll. While that may seem daunting — it can take a professional scribe a full year to complete, and the cost is significant — our sages teach that by acquiring even one letter in a Torah, you fulfill this mitzvah. Every single letter matters. Without your letter, the Torah is incomplete.

We are deeply grateful to the Gleicher family for giving each of us the opportunity to take part. You can dedicate a letter, word, verse, or chapter in the new Torah — for yourself, your children, a loved one, or in memory of someone dear. It's as if you are writing your own Torah, and this mitzvah brings great blessing to your home, your family, and your life.

Save the date: Sunday, June 8th, for a grand Torah celebration as we welcome the Torah to our community. We’ll dance the Torah through the streets of our neighbourhood, as we parade with Jewish pride and joyful music. The parade will be followed by a family fun fair as we celebrate the new Torah!

With gratitude and excitement,

Rabbi Shmuly and Mushkie Grossbaum
